Pilots and parachutes are both essential components of flights. However, the purpose of each of these items is vastly different from the other. Pilots are necessary for operating aircraft and ensuring that passengers reach their destinations safely. Parachutes are imperative in emergency situations.
Here’s the question: Is Jesus your pilot or your parachute? Like a pilot, do you rely on Him to help you get through this life? Or is He the parachute that you only bring out as a last resort in an emergency?
If Jesus is your pilot, you trust Him with the path of your life. You allow Him to lead you and guide you as you walk along your earthly journey. You commit every life decision to Him because you have seen that He is worthy to be trusted. He is the One who you depend on to bring you safely through each day.
If Jesus is your parachute, on the other hand, you only turn to Him in emergency situations. When your life is going good, you do not see the need for praying or reading the Word. Yet, when things go bad, you remember God’s mercy and turn to your safety net. Like a parachute, Jesus is your last resort when you are clueless on where to turn next.
A plane may be able to fly without a parachute, but it can never travel from place to place without a pilot. Your life is no different. We have no idea what life holds even five minutes into the future. We need someone to direct our decisions and guide us through each day. Let that be Jesus. Make Him your pilot and your counselor.
There’s nothing wrong with having a plan for emergencies, but a parachute offers no benefits if the user isn’t familiar with it. Come to know Jesus as your Savior, and you’ll have a pilot, a parachute, and a best friend all in one. I promise that you will never regret it.
